Congupna dairy company wins sustainability award

Congupna dairy company How Now Dairy has won a small business award at the Banksia Foundation Sustainability Awards.

Held in Sydney on December 3, the awards night brought together and celebrated the most innovative and effective contributions to sustainability in Australia.

How Now Dairy won the award for its “cow-centric” dairying model, a model the business says meets the ethical demands of welfare-conscious consumers and puts the welfare of the cow and calf first.

“It was amazing to be recognised,” How Now Dairy co-owner Cathy Palmer said.

“We were not expecting this award as most other entrants were about enviro projects whereas our entire business is the project.

“It is fantastic to gain recognition for the dairy industry to assure farmers that we are a real business and the focus for the future very much has to be about creating dairy products that resonate with the shift in attitude.”

Ms Palmer hoped the award would put the company on the map.

“Going forward for our business this award is amazing recognition for what we are trying to achieve,” she said.

“Banksia Awards works closely with many government departments so I am hoping this puts us on the map — no longer being seen as a crazy idea, but now a validated successful business showing a kinder way forward for the animals.”
