The region will be hit by severe heatwave conditions this week as they sweep across northern Victoria starting from Tuesday, December 17.
The severe conditions will last for about a week, encompassing south-eastern Western Australia, South Australia, southern Northern Territory, south-western Queensland and western New South Wales.
Temperatures are set to remain in mid 30s (ºC) to low 40s throughout the week.
Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to 18 to 21ºC during the week.
The UV Index will reach 13 (extreme) and fire danger rating for the days up to and including Thursday are forecast to be very high for the North East region.
