A fire on the Goulburn Valley Hwy near Koonoomoo that destroyed 42 round hay bales is being treated as suspicious.
The fire was reported about 8.15 am on January 8.
Firefighters from Yarroweyah, Cobram and Strathmerton fire brigades attended.
A cropping farmer helped plough a firebreak around the hay bales and firefighters put water onto the bales.
Seven hay bales were saved.
The incident was under control by 10.30 am but the bales kept burning for some time, with an advice message published for local communities due to the smoke.
The fire has been referred to Victoria Police for investigation.
