Stud principal and 23-year-old farmer Jack Nelson said he knew people were interested in Jackungah Nellie N09 but the final price was a surprise.
“It’s pretty exciting, that’s for sure,” Mr Nelson said.
“I know her new owners plan to use her as a foundation female and flush her.”
Mr Nelson said Nellie N09 was sold to Mansfield’s Gavin Lang as a three-in-one deal, with her calf in utero and bull calf at foot also included in the sale price.
“She’s got a good pedigree and was a Reserve Junior Champion at the Melbourne Royal Show,” he said.
“The current price of cattle would have most definitely helped. It’s a good time to be a part of the industry.”
The twilight auction on the Nelsons’ farm also featured cattle from fellow studs Ewyn Speckle Park, Baw Baw Speckle Park and Hanging Rock Speckle Park.
Across the board the four vendors offered 28 cows, 13 bulls, 46 embryos and 26 semen straws, which were auctioned by Brian Leslie.
Jackungah Speckle Park provided 12 of those cows, achieving a $18,807 sale average, and 12 of the bulls, fetching an $11,500 average.
Mr Nelson said he wanted to thank everyone for coming to the sale where the stud’s entire Q drop and some of their very best went under the hammer.
