It was also during this time I was elected as a councillor to the Hay Shire Council.
When I moved into Hay, I got the job managing the local radio station, which I did for 19 years and where I learned about the influence of media and good journalism.
After I retired, I moved to Deniliquin in 2014 to be near my family and consider that one of the best decisions of my life.
If I am elected, I commit myself to working hard and with thoughtfulness for this community.
One of my first priorities will be to try and heal the damage to council’s reputation by bringing my belief in good governance to the table.
I believe in good policy development, and the need to understand council's current financial status and work within the bounds set by that.
I am concerned about the financial viability of the retirement village and will work as a member of the new council to develop a new approach for its future.
I will advocate for a better deal for health services and education facilities, and I think council has a role to play in the issues affecting our youth.
I want to be part of a council our community is proud of and has faith in to conduct business in a responsible, transparent and fair way.
