Across the two days, residents disposed of more than 103 cubic metres of green waste, demonstrating strong local commitment to responsible waste management and keeping Benalla Rural City looking its best.
Residents were able to drop off lawn clippings, branches, garden prunings and raw timber offcuts at no cost, helping households prepare their gardens for winter while reducing the amount of organic material entering landfill.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the turnout reflected the pride residents take in caring for their environment.
“It’s fantastic to see so many people making the most of this opportunity,” Cr Hearn said.
“More than 100 cubic metres of green waste collected in just one weekend shows how committed our community is to keeping our rural city clean and beautiful.”
She said the initiative continues to deliver environmental benefits beyond the weekend itself.
“All green waste collected is mulched and reused on-site, helping prevent erosion and supporting grass growth at the Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre,” Cr Hearn said.
“It’s a simple but effective way we can work together to reduce waste, protect our environment and support sustainable practices.”
Council thanked residents for their participation and ongoing efforts to maintain a tidy and environmentally conscious community.
