It’s been a meeting place, a place of friendship and belonging, and an important part of Tatong and its surrounding communities.
From the excitement of Saturday football and netball to the hard work behind the scenes, the club has brought together families, friends, players, supporters and volunteers.
For many, some of their fondest memories of growing up in the district are connected to the club — running on to the oval or the asphalt court, cheering from the sidelines, travelling to away games, celebrating victories and, perhaps most importantly, sharing plenty of laughs along the way.
Over the years, the club enjoyed its share of sporting success, with premiership victories providing some of the most memorable days in its history.
Premiership cups and team photographs may tell part of the story, but behind every success are the people — the players who pulled on the jumper, the coaches and officials who guided them, the volunteers who made match day possible, and the families, supporters and sponsors who proudly stood behind the teams.
But a club's history isn't measured only by the number of premierships on the honour board.
It is also found in the friendships formed, the families who spent countless weekends together, the volunteers who quietly gave years of their time, the characters who made everyone laugh, and the generations of children who discovered a love of sport and community through the club.
For some, Tatong FNC represents their childhood. For others, it represents friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
For many who have moved away, it remains a special connection to home.
That sense of history and community will come alive again on Friday, September 25, when the club hosts Back to Tatong — the Tatong Football Netball Club Reunion.
A spokesperson said event would provide an opportunity for past players, members, families and supporters to come together, revisit old memories and celebrate the role the club played in so many lives.
“There will be plenty to see and do, including a display of memorabilia, an opportunity to celebrate and remember the club’s premiership successes, activities for the kids and, of course, plenty of time to reminisce about the old days,” the spokesperson said.
“Old team photographs, football jumpers, netball dresses, trophies and other pieces of club memorabilia have a special way of bringing memories flooding back.
“One photograph can spark a story that hasn’t been told for years, while seeing an old teammate can instantly transport you back to a particular season, a particular game or a particular Saturday afternoon.
“The Back to Tatong Reunion is an invitation to come along, bring your memories and share them with others.
“It’s a chance to remember those who have been part of the club’s journey, celebrate the successes, laugh about the characters and moments that made the club what it was, and introduce younger generations to the stories that have helped shape Tatong since the club first formed back in 1908.
“The Tatong Football and Netball Club has been fortunate to have generations of people who have given their time, energy and passion to keep the club going — from the first bounce to the final siren — and to ensure its memories and traditions continue ... Its history belongs to all of them.
“So, on Friday, September 25, from 2pm, it is time to travel Back to Tatong, return to the Magpies’ nest, enjoy the cheer around the bonfire and share an evening meal in the clubrooms.”
