People travelling to and from Jerilderie may be wondering what the story is behind the four coloured ‘totem’ poles on the Monash Memorial Drive side of the Newell Highway on the south side of town.

Information received on good authority states they are part of the Wiradjuri Walk project, funded with a grant through the NSW Government’s Shared Spaces Program.
The four colours feature in the Murrumbidgee Council logo, which symbolises the unique elements of our Council area.
Each of the Murrumbidgee Council’s towns has a matching set.
Other parts of the project include murals, storyboards and photographic wraps in Fig Tree Park, Darlington Point.

Older residents of Jerilderie will be saddened to learn of the recent death of Judy Pereira, the wife of John Pereira who was a former Principal of the Jerilderie Public School.
Judy will be remembered in Jerilderie as a gifted pianist, a keen golfer, and a good friend.
She was, for many years, accompanist for many successful productions of the former Finley Musical Society, local CWA concerts, and solo performers.
She was also an organist at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Jerilderie.
John, and their son Ian, predeceased Judy.
Sympathy is extended to daughters Jenny and Helen.

Another former resident of Jerilderie who died recently is Gordon Matthew, older brother of Vern Matthew.
Gordon and his wife Judy lived in the suburb of Isaacs in the ACT.
Sympathy is extended to Judy, their family and all the Matthew clan.

Jerilderie Hospital Auxiliary AGM and the July monthly meeting will be held on Thursday July 28, at 2pm at the CWA rooms.
Regional Representative of UHA, Pam Ellerman, and Murrumbidgee Mayor Ruth McRae, will be special guests.
The meetings will be followed by a shared afternoon tea.
Non-members are welcome to join members for the afternoon, starting at 2pm at the CWA rooms. New members always welcome.

The Jerilderie MPS Emergency Department of our local hospital is open again for 24 hour service seven days a week.

The Jerilderie Football Netball club will be holding a goods and services auction this Saturday at the Jerilderie Sports Club, starting at 7.30pm.
The aim is to raise money to update the electricity capacity at the footy grounds at Monash Park.
Among other things, it will allow for heaters (already purchased) to be used to keep the footy fans warm on cold winter days.
There will be some terrific items on offer for the auction thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses in Jerilderie.

Jerilderie’s St Joseph’s School will be hosting Ferret Races at Monash Park, Jerilderie, on Saturday August 27, from 6.30pm to 10pm.
This will be a family friendly, and hopefully ferret friendly, free evening.

Good to see that Jerilderie is going to be a recycling town from next year.
Council will be providing every household with three smaller bins for separate purposes from July 2023.
Small hazardous and problem waste material such as fluoro globes, mobile phones and accessories, smoke detectors, and household batteries can be dropped off at the CRC Small Drop-off Station at Council Office.

Ros Lockhart’s ‘Her Story’ Art Exhibition, currently on show at The Willows, will close on July 23.
While the ‘flags’ are flying out the front of The Willows the exhibition is open.

You may have noticed a man in a high viz jacket on an electric bicycle with a basket on the front and a trailer on the back, travelling recently along the Newell Highway in a southerly direction.
He is Father Michael Alcock from the Catholic parish of Sawtell, who has undertaken a ride for charity to raise money for Floods & Famine.
His aim is to ride from Sawtell to Adelaide, with his dog, which rides in the front basket very warmly wrapped against the cold breezes.
Father Michael rode from Narrandera last Wednesday, stayed overnight in Jerilderie for sustenance and a good night’s sleep, before heading off to Finley on Thursday morning, on a further leg of the long journey.

An opportunity for new people to town to meet some of the locals and swell numbers at bingo is to go along to the weekly session at the Anglican Church hall - opposite the Medical Centre, in Mahonga Street.
Bingo is every Tuesday, starting with ticket sales at 12.30pm and ‘eyes down’ on the dot of 1pm.
Cash prizes are up for grabs, and of course the more players the better the prizes.
