It was presented to vice president Al Nicholls and executive member George Reid to say thank you for the generous $2000 donation the club made to Finley Can Assist.
The donation was much appreciated by Can Assist as it allows the group to continue supporting local community clients on their cancer journey.
Glow mistaken for house fire
It’s great to see our community members are looking after each other as the temperatures dip.
A “good intent” call was made to the Deniliquin Fire + Rescue on Monday after a passer-by reported a glow coming from a window of a Laman Ct home about 7pm.
When firefighters arrived, they thankfully discovered it was nothing more than the glow of a heater radiating warmth for the occupants inside.
Police ball charity record
Murray River Police District has handed over a cheque for a record fundraising effort from its Charity Ball, supporting sick children and their families.
Launched in 2022, the Murray River Police Charity Ball is held every two years. The previous two events raised $65,000 combined.
In June this year, close to 200 people attended the 2026 ball to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House charity.
As a result, Southern Region Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar APM and MRPD Superintendent Paul Smith presented a cheque to Ronald McDonald House CEO Peter Bishop for just over $53,387.
The money will be used by Ronald McDonald House to fund a range of services, including the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Albury Wodonga Hospital.
Sun’s out
The sun should be shining across the weekend, making for solid winter weather for our local sport teams.
Saturday should see a high of 15°C and Sunday a high of 17°C, with a slight breeze.
These good conditions will be enjoyed by the Deni Rams playing at home, and the Wanderers having their first home game in a while.
Did you get a scare?
Phones across Australia blared for 10 seconds on Monday at 2pm as part of the AusAlert test.
AusAlert is a new emergency communications tool that emergency services can use to give information in an emergency, although not fully rolled out yet, Monday acted as a test before it officially launches in October.
However if you didn’t receive an alert, there are a few reasons this may be - your device might be older or not compatible; your device might not be updated; your device might not have mobile signal at the time of the test; the mobile tower closest to you might not be working due to maintenance or outage; or your device might be switched off, in aeroplane mode or not connected to any mobile tower at the time of the test.
Finding out how devices behave is one of the reasons why the government tested the AusAlert system before it launches in October.

Door to door salesmen
Some visiting door-to-door salesmen have been causing a bit of a stir on Deni social media recently, with many locals reporting the small incursion.
The group are reported to be selling solar panels, with one commenter referring to them as “very polite.”
Another commenter offered some advice, “just politely decline if you’re not interested.”
Barooga fire stand-by
Deniliquin Fire + Rescue crews were sent to Tocumwal at 6.47pm on Wednesday to help with community fire protection, while the Tocumwal and Berrigan FRNSW and Rural Service authorities assisted with a house fire in Barooga.
This is a standing arrangement across the region, with those brigades often providing the same service when our firefighters are involved in intensive firefighting.
