Just past noon on Sunday, Matilda Jean Pontelandolfo became the first baby born at Echuca Regional Health in 2022.

A first child for Echuca’s Annai Murphy and Rhys Pontelandolfo, Matilda came into the world at 12.14pm on January 2, weighing 3325g (7lb 5oz).

Matilda’s due date was originally January 8, but Annai went into labour on January 1, and Matilda was born through a caesarean the following day.
It was a familiar setting for Annai, who works as a theatre nurse at the hospital.
Matilda is a granddaughter to Alan and Denise Murphy of Ararat, and to Kathryn and Domenic (deceased) Pontelandolfo of Echuca.
Her middle name is in honour of Annai’s grandmother, 98-year-old Beryl Jean who lives in Ararat.
