FGLC secretary Julie Stava kicked the day off with a brief history of the Finley club before guest speaker Lorraine Emerson, who became president of Garden Clubs of Australia in 2020, talked about the evolution of the national body from 1950 to the present.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to FGLC members Anne Hawkins, Bernadette Grey and Lesley Wilson, who were recognised for their involvement in a variety of activities, including table and show judging, floral arranging, assisting new members and willingness to share their broad knowledge of gardening.
After lunch, amateur gardener Rodney Clarke from Invergordon, whose passions extend from dahlias and chrysanthemums to orchids, spoke to the group.
Mrs Stava said members from other regional garden clubs, including Kyabram, Rochester, Numurkah, Cobram and Deniliquin also attended the event, which was a great success.
She thanked everyone involved in the celebrations and encouraged gardening enthusiasts from across the region to support the Tocumwal Optimists’ open gardens event, which will be held on Sunday, October 23, between 10am and 4pm.
Gardens of all types will be on display for the Tocumwal Optimists’ open gardens event on October 23.
Six gardens around the town will be open to the public and tickets are $20 (allows entry to all gardens).
There will be a plant and produce stall at one of the properties and morning tea and lunch will also be available from the Tocumwal Lions’ Care Centre in Adams St, Tocumwal.
