The current infrastructure provides protection to G-MW customers in the Loch Garry Flood Protection District during minor and moderate floods.
The regulator has served the district for more than a century but is nearing the end of its expected lifespan within the next 20 years.
G-MW strategy and services planning general manager Steven Abbott said given the regulator’s age, the growing risks of more frequent and intense floods, and substantial costs associated with a complete upgrade, it was timely to consider its future.
“Since late 2023, G-MW has been working with a community reference group to develop future service options for Loch Garry,” Mr Abbott said.
“Extensive flood modelling has been undertaken to understand the impacts of changing the service, regulator, and landscape — especially how water would spread under different scenarios during minor and moderate floods.”
G-MW will host a series of drop-in sessions where attendees can learn about the options and provide feedback:
- Nathalia: Nathalia Sports and Community Centre, 42 Robertson St, from 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday, August 19.
- Undera: Undera Park Recreation Reserve, 1915 Echuca Rd, from 1pm to 3pm on Thursday, August 21.
