The next day, 11 brigades were called to a blaze in Tongala about 1.30 pm after a grader caused about 600 square hay bales to catch alight at a Day Rd property.
CFA District 20 commander Michael Masters said the bales were on a property owned by KyValley Dairy.
‘‘Firefighters were on scene for several hours to ensure the fire didn't spread to adjoining silage stacks,” he said.
“There were westerly winds pushing the embers into the stacks so we wanted to make sure they didn't catch fire.
‘‘It will be burning for some days yet.”
It was the fifth blaze in the district in two days after Thursday's Code Red fire danger day.
