The event, to be held on Friday, February 28, will showcase the latest findings from irrigated research trials, offering valuable insights into improving farm productivity and profitability.
This year’s event will focus on the 2024 research trials including building a flexible irrigated farm system that can adapt to seasonal variations, optimise water use and maximise yields.
Discussions will explore how growers can mitigate risks in changing seasons, particularly in autumn and spring, to ensure they are making the most of their water resources.
“Our goal is to provide farmers with practical, research-based information they can apply to their own operations,” Irrigation Farmers Network research manager Damian Jones said.
“This event is about giving growers the tools they need to make informed decisions that enhance productivity and profitability.”
One of the key topics will be faba bean seeding strategies, analysing how different planting populations and sowing times impact performance.
Attendees will also gain insights from barley variety and population trials, helping them determine which varieties are best suited for irrigated systems.
The event will also feature discussions on irrigated variety trials, prompting growers to assess whether their current varieties are delivering the best results or if alternative options could offer greater returns.
“With increasing seasonal variability, it’s critical that farmers have access to the latest research to help them manage risk and maximise efficiency,” Mr Jones said.
“By understanding how different varieties and management strategies perform under irrigation, we can create systems that are both resilient and profitable.”
The free event will run from 9am to noon on Friday, February 28, at Cadell on the Murray, 325 Perricoota Rd, Moama. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
