One of Junior’s favourite spots is under owner Ian ‘Newelly“ Newell’s ute.
“His name is Junior and he’s his father’s son,” Ian ‘Newelly’ Newell from Cobram Joinery said.

Junior, a 10-year-old Hungarian vizsla, appears content that his day job is to sleep while his owner, Newelly, builds and installs cabinetry throughout Victoria’s north-east and southern NSW.
“His dad Rusty was a hunting legend,” Newelly said.
“Junior had an accident when he was nine months old which has left him with a crook back leg. But he still has a great nose and good eyes, they just follow things.”
Newelly, an avid hunter, takes Junior out with him during duck season and thinks Junior, despite his injury, can still sniff out everything Newelly wants him to find.
“He’s a utility dog — a companion animal, a hunting dog and a great family pet,” Newelly said.
At home on the farm in Strathmerton, Junior leads a life of relaxed dog luxury.
During the working week he has the run of the joinery in Cobram that Newelly bought when he was just 21 years old.
Now 60, Newelly said he hadn’t found anything else he’d rather be doing with his days.
As they say, like owner, like dog, and Junior is also satisfied with his career path, mostly overseeing Newelly doing the heavy lifting.
“I have always taken my dog to work with me. I don’t see the point of owning a dog and tying it up all day.”
When out on work sites, Junior’s workday can go one of two ways.
He either stays in the ute and sleeps or he’s allowed out to sniff until his nose is content, and then sleeps under the ute until the job is done.
