Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio has announced applications are now open with a total of $410000 available for grassroots programs.
‘‘This program is creating volunteering opportunities that encourage and inspire young people to participate in caring for our natural environment and biodiversity,’’ she said.
State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, Scouts, Guides and youth groups could apply for grants of up to $5000 for projects that boosted biodiversity through the development, improvement or restoration of habitat for Victoria’s native plants and animals.
Grants will also be available for programs that engage or educate young people to value and actively care for Victoria’s natural environment.
Now in its second year, the pilot program is part of a four-year $18million investment to increase support for Landcare and implement recommendations of the Victorian Landcare Program Review.
The grants will be administered by Landcare Australia as part of its Junior Landcare program, in partnership with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
