Groundwater licence holders in the Lower Campaspe Valley Water Supply Protection Area have a 100 per cent allocation for the 2019-20 season, with the exception of those in the Barnadown Zone where an allocation of 75 per cent has been announced.
The reduced allocation in the Barnadown Zone does not apply to licensed entitlement that has been carried over by licence holders from the previous season.
Goulburn-Murray Water says allocations have been determined in accordance with the Lower Campaspe Valley WSPA Groundwater Management Plan, which was approved by the water minister in 2012.
G-MW groundwater and streams acting manager Scott Ridges said this was good news for the majority of the 129 Lower Campaspe Valley licensed groundwater users.
‘‘These customers are able to take and use up to 100 per cent of their entitlement despite intensive use over the last few years,’’ Mr Ridges said.
Declining groundwater levels in recent years have resulted in the Barnadown Zone licences being subject to a restriction on groundwater take for the first time since the 2012 plan has been in operation.
