Kate Buggy, Nic Murphy, Erin Berry and Hamish Brown will take to the stage at the Albury Entertainment Centre in one of the most loved and successful musicals of all time.
Kate Buggy expressed her admiration of the exceptional talent within the theatre company and was excited to see four locals successfully make it into the production after 170 people had auditioned.
Kate was encouraged to audition by her friend, Erin Berry, and is forever grateful.
“It’s been such an amazing journey, we are new to it, and it’s a wonderful community,” Kate said.
“I have been blown away by the professionalism and respect. I just love it, I haven’t tired of the rehearsals, practice or songs,” she said.
Nic Murphy, Kate’s son and a student at St Mary’s Primary School in Corowa has a primary lead role as Kurt VonTrapp, one of the children.
Nic, 11, has been attending Sharyn Hill Drama School and said his year four teacher recommended he start drama classes.
“I am so excited about this scale, I am not nervous, but it’s something I haven’t done before,” he said.
Nic’s grandfather, John Buggy, who passed away in 2002, was a life member of Corowa Theatre Company and a pharmacist in the town. Nic comes from an extended musical family and is following in their footsteps.
Erin Berry and Kate Buggy will perform as the nuns in the musical ensemble and two other smaller roles, while Hamish Brown is playing a German sympathiser.
Erin said the generosity of all production and cast in sharing their knowledge and talent has been overwhelming for someone with no experience.
“There is a real community that extends beyond the cast and includes anyone working on the production,” Erin said.
“Everyone is so focused on the end goals of producing a fantastic show and helping in whatever way possible for that to happen.”
Hamish Brown is no stranger to theatre, having been in previous productions over the years, including Spamalot, One Man Two Governors, Charlie and Chocolate Factory and last year, The Little Mermaid.
Hamish is excited to be performing in the Sound of Music and also sharing the stage with more Corowa locals.
Inspired by the lives of the actual von Trapp family, The Sound of Music tells the uplifting story of Maria, a fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family's escape from the Nazis across the mountains from Austria.
It features an unforgettable score that includes some of the most famous songs ever performed on stage, including “ My Favorite Things”, “ Edelweiss”, “ Do-Re-Mi”, “ Sixteen Going on Seventeen”, “ The Lonely Goatherd”, “ Climb Ev'ry Mountain” and the title song, “ The Sound of Music”.
Albury Wodonga Theatre Company is presenting the Sound of Music from 10-18 May 2024. Tickets can be purchased online at www.alburyentertainmentcentre.com.au
