The flora and fauna of Loch Garry will continue to thrive, thanks to a recent 500 Ml top-up.
The seasonal closure of the irrigation network for maintenance meant that only 500 Ml of a planned 1000 Ml of environmental water was delivered to the Bunbartha wetland.
This is the first time water for the environment has been delivered to the wetland, which has significant cultural sites, is a popular recreational destination and, when it holds water, supports frogs, turtles, thousands of waterbirds and other native wildlife.
Less than 20 per cent of the 680 ha wetland has been shallowly inundated.
Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority plans to survey the extent and depth of the water to help inform future environmental water planning and monitoring.
The delivery is managed by Goulburn-Murray Water in line with the Victorian Environmental Water Holder’s seasonal watering plan.
