Goulburn-Murray Water said the extent of the maintenance works required and the duration of the closure would become clearer following further inspection.
The temporary closure of the lock will not affect the normal operation of Torrumbarry Weir in terms of river flow and water supply.
G-MW dams operations north manager Tony Beamish said the works meant recreational water users would be unable to use the lock to travel up or downstream until the lock was back in operation.
‘‘We have informed local vessel operators of the lock closure and will continue to keep users informed on expected timeframes once known,’’ Mr Beamish said.
G-MW closed the lock in November 2017 for repairs but the required work was found to be more extensive that originally estimated.
It was reopened in September following successful refurbishment works, which included the inspection of the sub-floor drainage system and lock foundations, and general inspection of the lock as a whole as well as painting of the gates, and the machining and replacement of new valve frames.
The original weir was built between 1921 and 1923 by the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission for the River Murray Commission.
