Following last year’s installation of an all-abilities playground, council has now finished constructing a new perimeter fence and installing shade sails to improve comfort and safety for everyone who uses the reserve.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the upgrades reflected council’s ongoing commitment to creating welcoming community spaces.
“The Mackellar St Reserve is a much-loved local park, and these improvements make it even more enjoyable for all families,” Cr Hearn said.
“As a grandmother, I loved visiting the playground with my grandson Percy, and I know how important it is to have spaces that feel safe, comfortable and welcoming.
“The new fence gives parents, grandparents and carers real peace of mind, and the shade sails mean children can play comfortably in the warmer weather.
“We know how important accessible, safe and inclusive playgrounds are for our community, and it’s wonderful to see this reserve continue to evolve into a space that supports active play and social connection.
“Council thanks residents for their patience while works were completed and looks forward to seeing local families enjoy the improved playground throughout the year.”
