Field days president Scott Nichol said this year’s event would celebrate its growth at the Elmore Events Centre where it has flourished tenfold since 1963 to now cover 150 hectares.
“Isn’t it amazing how far the Elmore Field Days have changed in 60 years?” Mr Nichol said.
“Not only has the site grown, but also the changes in machinery and processes.”
The organisation celebrated its milestone with a dinner earlier this year and inducted three new life governors — Lorraine Trewick, Derek Shotton and Philip Neale — for their commitment to the event over the years.
The field days returned in 2022 after two years of pandemic closures, and also played a key role in supporting the community three weeks later by taking action quickly during last October’s floods.
In response to urgent accommodation needs, the organisation partnered with the Victorian Government, exhibitors and local contractors to provide the site and facilities for temporary emergency housing.
Mr Nichol said the existing infrastructure remaining from the event allowed for a quick transition.
“Our exhibitors allowed the infrastructure to be used for the accommodation because it was still onsite and ready to go,” he said.
“It was something we had to do — it was the best thing to do. It showed how strong a community can be.”
This year’s field days will present the latest developments in farming machinery, irrigation, construction and infrastructure for livestock handling.
A daily program in the shearing shed will showcase sheep management practices, from shearing and lice control to on-farm digital security management.
There will be a kids’ zone and animal rides for children and 10 food courts will operate throughout the site.
Mr Nichol said despite the site looking a “little different” from last year, the grounds were in great condition.
“The weather outlook is good as well.”
The field days run from October 3 to 5 at 48 Rosaia Rd, Elmore, from 8.30am to 5pm.
