The first episode of a new podcast series was launched on Wednesday, January 18 to assist farmers in making their enterprises better prepared for drought.

Innovation AG incorporates the best advice from farmers and academics, and reports on the latest scientific research for future-proofing farms.

The first of 10 fortnightly episodes explains the basics of innovation and describes the motivation behind farmers making changes.

Among those interviewed are Dr Dorin Gupta from the University of Melbourne’s Dookie campus, poll Merino sheep breeder Nigel Kerin and Ivan Shaw, inventor of the Shaw Arm Trellis.

Andrea Cross, who organises the Horsham Ag Society’s 150km Feast, also features as a guest.

The podcast is being created by the Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub (VicHub) and is a free series to help farmers who are wanting to make their farms climate-resilient through new technology or by changing their practices.

VicHub communications officer Samantha Schelling said that although podcasts were now popular with farmers, Innovation AG was different due to its focus on future-proofing farms.

“This one is unique to other farming podcasts because it includes on-farm technology and incorporates the latest science from universities and farming organisations,” Ms Schelling said.

“Farmers do listen to podcasts but in this one we take experiences from other farmers as well as scientists.”

The first broadcast investigates motivation, decision making for introducing new ideas and how to seek funding.

The podcast is hosted by former ABC journalist Kirsten Diprose and is available on Spotify, Apple, Buzzsprout and the VicHub website at: https://vicdroughthub.org.au/podcast
