Field & Game Australia said the draft report was leaked to media outlets on Friday, August 11, by a member of the committee, 20 days before the final version is due to be officially tabled on August 31.
The leak hints at a potential ban on duck hunting in Victoria, and has intensified the divide between conservationists, hunters and farming communities.
Advocates for the hunting community argue that a ban on native bird hunting is not only unnecessary but is a smokescreen for more comprehensive anti-animal-use objectives.
The office of the inquiry into Victoria’s recreational native bird hunting arrangements has not issued any statements regarding the leak.
