However, when the line-up of 40 hopeful women was released last week, keen eyes at the Riverine Herald informed us of a familiar face in the glamour shots.
Meg O’Sullivan is known around Echuca as a lovely, funny and entertaining larrikin.
Acquaintances assure us she’ll be “real good entertainment” on the screen and describe her as “bunch of red hair, you can’t miss her”.
With not one, but two — and maybe even three (there are 19 women from Victoria in total) — locals appearing in the show, the premiere on Sunday, July 4 at 7 pm on Channel 7 should be great entertainment for everyone in the region.
Matchmaking fans be warned — sparks do not fly between Echuca's Meg and Longwood's Farmer Will.
Instead, Meg matches up with Farmer Rob from the Snowy Mountains, and can be spotted in a recent teaser on a fire-side picnic with him beside a scenic High Country creek.
Meg said she chose Farmer Rob from the bunch because she usually dates bearded guys and she likes them funny.
“Laughter and banter are massive for me,” she said.
“I want the farm life, and I’m willing to get in and get dirty.”
For any readers not familiar with the format, Farmer Wants A Wife starts out as a big meet and greet before the five farmers are asked to select eight women for a series of speed dates.
After the speed dating section the farmers then choose just five women to bring back to their farms.
The farm stage takes six weeks and the farmers have to slowly whittle down their final five until only one remains.
Country News can confirm Farmer Will's speed-dating eight includes a zookeeper, veterinary surgeon and paediatric nurse.
One of the women (not the zookeeper) admits to breeding rats as a kid to supply to the local zoo.
Country News will be keeping a close eye on her, as she sounds like a keeper.
Another girl said she was attracted to Farmer Will because it was "endearing how he treats the lambs" while another was drawn to him because "he flew to Europe for a girl, I flew to Egypt for a boy, so it sounds as though we both get as crazy in love as each other".
The other three farmers in this season — Matt, Sam and Andrew — are a little hard to tell apart, but maybe a few episodes will help us sort them out.
The premiere will end what has been a long hiatus for the show, which was meant to air in February.
