Managed by Bill Mol, who has 40 years of experience in the industry, the business has been based in Miepoll for two years following its move from Tatura.
Tatura Pine Shavings and Sawdust manager Bill Mol.
The company’s products include pine shavings, sawdust and wood chips, all of which are sourced locally.
“Shavings are used for animal bedding, poultry, horses and calving,” Mr Mol said.
The bagged products are available for both larger operations and smaller-scale users.
“Your hobby farms will grab a bag or two, or three bags. Some of the chook farms will grab them too, so they can drag them around and fill their nesting boxes,” he said.
They also specialise in sawdust and hardwood products, which has minimal dust compared to other bedding.
“Sawdust is mainly used in the horse racing industry because there’s no dust in it,” Mr Mol said.
“Hardwood can be used anywhere from composting, horse stables and calf feeding. It’s more absorbent than pine, but it’s a lot dustier.”
Wood chips and mulch are also available.
The business offers pine peelings and a wood chip product that comes in sizes ranging from 20mm to 30mm.
“That can be used for gardens, cattle laneways or bedding,” he said.
“We just took a load of pine shavings, and they’re going to soak up a heap of mud, so cattle can walk easier.”
Located at 2413 Murchison Violet Town Rd, Miepoll, Mr Mol said customers were welcome to stop by.
“People can come out and pick up a bag, or they can buy supplies,” he said.
“You can ring us for a reasonable price on wood chips as well.”
Customers are asked to give notice when placing orders, as on-site staff may be limited when deliveries are high.
