Rainfall totals in April were below to very much below average for northern Victoria.
Shepparton saw a month total of 1.8mm, with 1mm of that on Anzac Day — the third driest April on record.
Shepparton’s driest Aprils are: 2013, 0mm; 1997, 1.2mm; 2025, 1.8mm; 2021, 3.6mm; and 2019, 5.6mm.
Looking around the region for April, Benalla had 4.2mm, Yarrawonga 6.8mm and Deniliquin 7.2mm.
Kerang was the only place to see an autumn break, with 41.6mm of rain across the month and 37.8mm falling on Anzac Day.
Echuca got 23mm of rain across April, Tatura 11.8mm and Mangalore 20.8mm.
Mean maximum temperatures in April were very much above average for the whole state.
Deniliquin, Echuca, Kyabram, Mangalore, Tatura and Shepparton all saw their highest average April temperatures.
Shepparton, Kyabram and Deniliquin broke records for highest average night-time temperature in their areas.
Shepparton had an average night-time temperature of 11.3°C, breaking its previous record of 10.9°C.
Kyabram’s previous record of 11.6°C was just broken by this year’s average of 11.7°C and Deniliquin broke its record of 11.6°C, having an average of 11.8°C.
Mangalore and Echuca saw their highest average night-time temperatures in 30 years, with an average of 11°C and 11.9°C respectively.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a drier than average May but a wet June and July.
Rainfall is likely to very likely to be below average across most of the Australian mainland.
There is an increased chance of unusually low rainfall across much of Australia, especially in large parts of the interior and scattered areas in the south.
