This Australia Day, she was honoured for her quiet contributions by being named Kyabram’s Citizen of the Year.
Mrs Wilson said she was humbled to receive with the shield with all the names of past citizens of the year written on it.
Volunteering has become Mrs Wilson's passion, inspired by her mother, who raised her to be community-minded and caring towards others.
“Whatever you do (in volunteering), you get back three, five, tenfold,” she said.
“I love volunteering because when you start, there’s a lot of people just needing someone to talk to, needing a smile, or something — it’s very rewarding.”
Her extensive service spans many years as a registered nurse and her leadership role as Girl Guides district commissioner, mentoring young women across the region.
Mrs Wilson has volunteered extensively through the Anglican Church, including providing community meals.
She is a familiar and welcoming face at the Kyabram Town Hall Art Gallery, regularly checking in on those who may be isolated or facing difficult times.
Whether selling pins on Anzac Day, helping set up community exhibitions, or sharing produce from her garden, Mrs Wilson's kindness and generosity have touched many lives.
Mrs Wilson estimates she has held around 10 volunteer positions throughout her life, with one role holding particular significance for her.
“I had 10 years at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court volunteering,” she said.
“Every day I came home, blessed that I went there voluntarily and not on summons.
“I met all sorts of people ... and speaking with them made me appreciate what I have.”
Speaking to the gathered community after accepting her award, Mrs Wilson passionately encouraged everyone to discover the rewards of volunteering.
“You meet many people, and everyone has a story to tell, and it's worth listening to,” she said.
