The award-winning event has been running for 30 years and has represented up to 40 breeds with competitors from across Australia.
The 2027 competition will be held from May 2 to 8 at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
The classes will provide recognition for calf animals between six months and 14 months, and junior animals between 15 months and 21 months, ensuring broader representation from across the industry.
The classes will be Calf Champion Bull, Calf Champion Female, Junior Champion Bull and Junior Champion Female.
Each class will feature the champion animal of each breed level class presented to judges who are separate from the existing grand champion competitions, an approach that is aimed at preserving the independence and prestige of the main interbreed classes.
“The initiative has been designed to create a more balanced and inclusive interbreed competition structure, while showcasing the quality and future potential of younger cattle across Australia’s beef industry,” Beef Australia chief executive officer Simon Irwin said.
“Beef Australia believes these additions will further strengthen breed participation, celebrate emerging genetics, and provide exhibitors with greater opportunities for recognition on one of the industry’s biggest stages.”
The existing classes remain unchanged and will continue to be Grand Champion Bull, Grand Champion Female and Grand Champion Breeder's Group.
