That’s the slogan of Yentrac Prime Lamb Sires, a ram producer based in Tatura that will be hosting an on-farm sale on Wednesday, September 30.
The sale will feature 70 Poll Dorsets, 30 White Suffolks and 10 Southdowns all between 12 and 15 months old that have matured on the good feed that came from a mild winter.
The ram sale will be held on-farm at 110 Craven Rd, Tatura, with inspections from 11am and the sale at 1pm.
Katie Shapcott said their breeding program was aimed at achieving the biggest impact for the commercial buyers who were the target market for the sale.
Mrs Shapcott said the rams were from Yentrac’s own bloodlines as well as Hillden, Abelene Park, Coledale and Springwaters.
“It’s good to get new blood into your own genetic pool,” Mrs Shapcott said.
Yentrac’s breeding focuses on structural correctness, muscle and growth.
“Your breeding is always going with the fortune of the season and you always have to adapt to that,” she said.
Mrs Shapcott’s father, Rob McCartney, has been operating the property of over 200 hectares for 48 years, starting with Southdowns before adding Poll Dorsets and White Suffolks.
Mr McCartney said Southdowns were known for their easy lambing, and buyers sought them out to breed maiden ewes.
Mrs Shapcott said that being a younger woman in farming was “getting a lot more accepted, especially in the stud space”.
