BOWLS
Echuca
Our members have again proved how important supporting each other is this week.
A call to help sandbag homes saw Echuca Bowls Club members rise to the occasion.
We are looking out for each other and everyone in the Echuca-Moama community.
“This year has been extremely challenging,” Echuca Bowls Club president Trevor Rickard said.
“Thanks to our members for being so understanding.
“Remember, following every shower the sun will shine through. Stay safe everyone.”
Social bowls winners on Tuesday, October 11 were Heather Trotter, John Brown, Kristy Gillingham and Graeme Poulton.
Social bowls winners on Tuesday, October 18 were Ivan Hicks’ team and runners-up were Doug Goldsworthy’s team.
Thanks to the Region Match Committee which made an early and logical call on last week’s pennant. We will wait with bated breath to see what rain ensues this week and pennant will depend on that.

On Tuesday evening, the first night of barefoot bowls was held and attracted 22 players to enjoy the fine conditions.
Following the scheduled two games of eight ends, there were three teams undefeated.
After a lengthy countback and some severe scrutiny, the end result favoured Jacob Haines and Ray Hanson (s) with two wins plus nine shots ahead of Graeme Wood, Cindy Felmingham and Neil Haines (s) two wins plus eight shots.
Third place went to Rhaine Dennis, Peter Standl and Lloyd Buchanan (s) two wins plus seven shots.
The club thanked Mary Thomas (cards), Brian Kinnane (BBQ chef), Denise Gilmore (organiser) and Dave Thomas (bar) for their great input on the night.
Barefoot bowls will continue on a Tuesday evening (weather permitting) starting at 7pm. Names to be listed prior to 6.30pm. All welcome and bowls are available.
Unfortunately due to the recent spell of wet weather, the weekly 60-and-over competition has suffered over the past two weeks as play had to be cancelled.
Lockington Bowls Club is scheduled to host the competition this week, but may also suffer the same fate.
Congratulations to our member Bev Brereton who has been adjudged the June winner of the Volunteer of the Year award that is being supported by Tobin Brothers.
The 12 monthly winners will be judged in the final later in the year.
Members are advised that the 2022-23 Bendigo-Campaspe-Goldfields handbook is available. Books are issued with members’ names applied and are available at the clubhouse. One available per person.
The first round of Campaspe Area pennant was cancelled due to the wet weather.
