It was a slick round to be a Striker at the weekend, with the club turning Shepparton’s Smurf Turf red in the latest instalment of Goulburn Valley Hockey Association action.
All but one of Strikers’ sides went unbeaten in round six, and getting the party started on Friday night were the club’s A-grade men.
Up against Shepparton Youth Club, the Strikers avenged their round three defeat to the Scorchers by whipping a handful of goals in during a 5-1 victory.
Sam Holland was the chief destroyer for Strikers, with his hat trick supplemented by Max Cole and Duncan Moodie’s goals.
Luke Greig was SYC’s solitary scorer on the night.
In the women’s division, Echuca-Moama Green put a slight dampener on the Strikers’ festivities by inflicting a 3-0 defeat, with Courtney Thompson’s double the highlight.
Meanwhile, the River Rats’ other faction, Echuca-Moama White, proved too strong for Euroa in a 4-1 win.
Women’s Vic League Two match play had Mooroopna square up to top side La Trobe University, and despite a spirited showing, Kirrilly Knaggs’ goal wasn’t enough to lift the Cats to an upset as the home side held on 2-1.
Back on the GVHA circuit, B-grade action saw Ian Greig’s brace land SYC a narrow 2-1 result over Mooroopna, while Strikers split the points with Echuca Moama following a 1-1 draw.
Strikers continued to dominate in the junior divisions, with the under-12 side going big in a 15-6 triumph over SYC to underscore a commanding weekend for the club.
News photographer Megan Fisher swung by to capture the under-15s match between Strikers and Mooroopna, of which the former won 4-0.
