The Redeyes’ senior footballers had a win in their last game, played against Mathoura, winning the close contest by 23 points.
Senior coach Dane Leyden said the taste of a win will hopefully help the team focus on achieving victories again more regularly.
“It just reminds you what can happen after putting in the hard work and doing the little things,” he said.
“After having that feeling, it is something that we would like to have more often.
“You remember that is the feeling you’re chasing, and we feel like we could’ve had a few more times this year.
“It is a reminder that if we want to achieve those results, we’ve got to continue to put in the work and keep the standards high.”
In their last match, Blighty kicked more accurately than Mathoura despite fewer scoring shots.
Leyden said he was pleased his team found the way to get the win.
“I felt like it was in our favour all day.
“It is hard to judge on the scoreboard, and credit to Mathoura they played well and made it hard to get on top.
“In the end, we did the job we needed to do, which I was really proud of.”
The team will be trying to take the confidence from their win against Mathoura into their match against Jerilderie tomorrow.
The Dees are currently in eighth position on the senior football ladder, and will be looking to secure their finals position this weekend.
They have won four games in a row, so far.
But Blighty will be pushing to make it hard for them.
“I hope we can bring some momentum into the game against Jerilderie,” Leydon said.
“Unfortunately, there are a few players out this week, but there tends to be at this time of year.
“But this weekend against Jerilderie, I can’t see why we can’t challenge them.
“We’re well-prepared, and we know they’ll be trying to play for a finals spot, and we’ll look to match it.
“We’ll just need to play well from the start and give it a red-hot crack.”
