Passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family.
Beloved son of Elsa and Geoffrey, and proud father to Serena, Kirsty and Jane, and grandfather to Maddy, Milly, Amalia and Rui.
He was the third officer on watch on the bridge of the ship S.S. “Lake Illawarra” when it sank in Hobart on 5th January 1975. He was the last survivor from this tragedy.
Born in Melbourne, he lived a life that spanned the Eastern Seaboard of Australia, including Victoria, NSW, Tasmania and Queensland, as well as time in Papa New Guinea and the United Kingdom in his youth. Most recently, he resided at Warringah Place in Collaroy, making many new friends.
Winton’s life will be celebrated at a later date in Manly.
