The Purbrick family, whose five generations have tended their land since purchasing the property in 1925, are coming to the end of a year-long calendar of celebrations.
To mark the occasion, the family had their matriarch, Bonnie Purbrick, 97, unveil a plaque to commemorate the centennial with the attendance of family members, councillors and dignitaries to join them.
The year-long celebration began with an exclusive family and media tasting which generated widespread national coverage and shone a spotlight on the estate’s infl uence on Australian wine.
Since then, Tahbilk has held more than 100 events at the estate and across the country, from limited edition Centennial wine releases to collaborative partnerships, each reinforcing Tahbilk’s place as one of Australia’s most historic and beloved wineries.
Purchased in 1925 by Eric Purbrick, who acquired the property sight unseen from England, the estate has since been guided by five generations of family.
Fourth generation winemaker Alister Purbrick, who led the winery for almost five decades, said the story was one of courage, resilience and commitment.
“As we unveil this plaque and look towards the next 100 years, this is a moment to pause, reflect and celebrate the collective passion that has carried Tahbilk through the past century and will guide it into the next,” he said.
