Year 12 student Ben Bauer, from Barooga, has grown up on a dairy and beef cattle property and is studying agriculture and primary industries subjects for his HSC.
“I grew up on a farm and my parents instilled in me a passion for the industry ... I don’t believe you can receive the same reward for (effort from) any other industry,’’ Ben said.
“You can do anything; you can be in agribusiness in big banks right down to being a farm-hand and there is a lot of reward you can receive from any end of the spectrum.”
Why bother studying when you already have some farm experience?
“I think you can learn a lot more here than you can at home. You are seeing how someone else is doing something; something might not work at home, but will work if you understand the principles. You can see what others are doing,’’ Ben said.
“You are viewing newer practices and seeing whether they can be implemented on your own operation.
“I want to do an agriscience or agribusiness degree and travel around the world and see what the industry is doing overseas.”
