Auction numbers up

A total of 48 rams were offered for sale at the Hynam Poll Merinos cattle sale on Friday, September 20.

Hynam Poll Merinos owner Kevin Hynam said he'd had more buyers attend, compared to the previous year.

“We've got dual-purpose sheep for wool, they're large-framed meaty sheep to be sold as prime lambs. We're focusing on staple length so we're able to shear twice a year. There will be a few private selection rams available after the sale.”

A bidder from Elders Wool and Livestock, Glendon Hancock, placed one of the highest bids on the day.

“They've got good carcase figures, growth rate and combination deep crimping. We're keeping in mind that I'm buying non-mulesed rams for my clients. It's the way it's heading with activists, if you ignore it you could end up with a lack of competition for your wool.”
