Opposition leader Angus Taylor has laid out his plan for the party's fresh direction under his and deputy leader Jane Hume's direction.
The pair have been quick to vow to lower taxes, focus on housing affordability and maintain a tough stance on immigration.
Even with an injection of new leadership energy, though, the party finds itself in a difficult position, says polling expert Kos Samaras.
Mr Taylor and Ms Hume face many of the same challenges Sussan Ley did before them, he said, namely a loss of support from most voter groups.
Mr Samaras told AAP the conservative party is exposed to two gravitational pulls.
One is from the Gen X and right-wing cohort, who are former Liberal voters rejecting established centre-right political parties.
"Winning them back is going to be pretty hard because they are animated by a sense of being abandoned economically," he said.
The other group is made up of progressives and women who are moving away from the coalition in urban settings.
"Angus Taylor cannot be ultra conservative on certain issues and then try to pretend he can talk to progressive Melbourne and Sydney," Mr Samaras said.
"He's going to get wedged as Sussan Ley was wedged.
"He's facing the same problems established centre-right parties around the Western World are now confronting as they are being replaced by right-wing populist movements.
"This is fundamentally his problem.
"They can change leaders as much as they want but they are dealing with a geopolitical movement that is significant."
The leadership spill on Friday followed polling showing the coalition's primary vote slumping to a record low and being overtaken by Pauline Hanson's One Nation.
Mr Taylor toppled the party's first female leader 34 votes to 17 in the ballot, ending her tenure after only nine months.
Shortly after the spill, Ms Ley revealed she would spend the coming weeks in her regional NSW electorate of Farrer before resigning from parliament.
A by-election will then be needed to choose a new MP for Farrer in what looms as a significant early test for Mr Taylor.
He will need to prove he can stave off challenges from independents and One Nation, who are riding higher than the Liberals in the polls.
"It's never going to be easy," Mr Taylor told reporters in Goulburn on Saturday.
"We're realistic about this and we got to restore confidence of voters across Australia, including in Farrer. And that's what we are going to do."
Although restoring confidence won't happen quickly, the party's structural woes will require changes that can only be addressed over time, Mr Samaras added.
"If nothing changes, we are going see a situation where the Liberal Party will be looking at a world where they are no longer a major political force," he said.
"Things can change but at the moment, the trajectory's looking pretty grim for them."
