Light rainfall across northern Victoria last week offered some relief from dry conditions, but the month has ended with less than half the average rain for most northern Victorian districts.

At Shepparton a total of about 35 mm was recorded for May, compared to the long-term average of 55 mm and at Deniliquin 12 mm fell, compared to the 44 mm average.
However the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting the likelihood of a wetter winter for south-east Australia.
In its climate outlook released on Thursday, May 27, the bureau is also forecasting above-average temperatures for eastern Australia in June.
This week, the bureau is forecasting showers on Wednesday across northern Victoria.
The region's May 2021 rainfall figures (with rainfall long-term averages for May) were: Shepparton 35 mm (55 mm), Echuca 14 mm (40 mm), Benalla 21 mm (63 mm), Kerang 17 mm (35 mm), Mangalore 51 mm (53 mm), Deniliquin 12 mm (37 mm), Kyabram 15 mm (44 mm) and Yarrawonga 44 mm (48 mm).
