Police said the tree had fallen earlier in the week, landing on a shed on the property and the deceased had been cutting it up to clear the mess when it shifted and fell on him. It is understood he had been using a chainsaw to cut up the tree.
Emergency services were called but the man died at the scene.
Nobody else was injured and police will prepare a report for the Coroner and WorkSafe will attend the scene.
The fatality brings the number of Victorian workplace deaths this year to 15, three more than at the same time last year.
In another incident, a farmhand has been killed felling trees at a property north-east of Melbourne.
The man was found unconscious after a tree was pushed over by a tractor at Buxton about 11am last Wednesday.
WorkSafe said the 59-year-old was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital with head injuries but died a short time later. Investigations are ongoing.
