The Cougars ladies made the trip to Baranduda, enjoying a well-earned sleep in after finally escaping the usual 9:00am kickoff.
They came out firing, with a slick pass to Mercy who raced 60 metres to score the opening try and give the Cougars the perfect start.
A few handling errors allowed Tumbarumba back into the contest, but the Cougars dug deep with some outstanding goal-line defence.
Despite their efforts, limited possession eventually took its toll, and Tumbarumba capitalised on their pace to score a couple of late first half tries.
The second half saw the Cougars spend long periods defending our line, but the determination and resilience shown by the team never wavered.
Every player continued to turn up for one another, demonstrating the grit and heart this side is becoming known for.
After finally working their way into Tumbarumba’s half and building sustained pressure on the try line, the match was unfortunately called off following unacceptable on-field behaviour from the opposition.
While the result didn’t fall our way, the Cougars can be proud of our effort, courage and teamwork throughout the afternoon.
The way the Cougars women conducted themselves on the field and rallied around each other when needed was their biggest takeaway, declaring they are “more than just a club”.
With a well-deserved bye next week, the ladies will enjoy a chance to rest, reset and come back ready to go again.

The Cougars men picked up where they left off the previous week, playing with confidence, physicality and purpose.
Strong carries, tough defence and great ball movement had the boys in control from the outset, showing just how much the team is continuing to improve.
Unfortunately, the match was called off during the second half after the opposition were unable to continue due to several injuries.
While it wasn’t the way anyone wanted the game to end, the result secured the Cougars’ first win of the season; a well-deserved reward for the hard work, commitment and steady improvement the boys have shown week after week.
Congratulations to the team on getting their first win on the board!
