Echuca United’s Ryan Strahan impressed at a competitive NSW trials round in Lavington on June 1 and 2 to earn selection for the 14-and-under team at the national level.
The Moama Anglican Grammar School attendee will represent his state at the championships, which are to be held from July 25 to 31 at La Trobe University in Bundoora.
NSW will take on the other five states, including two Victorian teams, and the ACT, with the competition featuring a pool stage followed by final ranking matches.
NSW is in pool B with Victoria Navy, Tasmania and the ACT.
Strahan has been a key piece in the Echuca United under-14s side’s strong 6-3 start in the Murray League this year.
He has featured in his side’s best players in six of his eight appearances this season, and has shown the ability to perform at both ends of the ground.
Deployed in attack earlier in the year, Strahan kicked 11 goals on April 18 in a huge win over Tongala.
He also kicked six for Leitchville-Gunbower when he joined the Bombers on permit on April 11.
