Worth Preserving – 100 Years of SPC was relaunched last week, after a push by locals to get the celebrated tome into book stores.

Originally produced as an internal offering for company stakeholders, Committee for Greater Shepparton chief executive Sam Birrell said he was always keen to see the work made available to the public.
‘‘I told (SPC Ardmona management) I’ve got people ringing saying, ‘can we get a book, there’s no copies in the stores now’,’’ he said.
A well-researched and written book that dives into the history of the iconic Shepparton company, it is a ‘must read’ for anyone with an interest in SPC Ardmona or the history of Shepparton, according to Mr Birrell.
Author Jenny Mountstephen had done herself proud researching and crafting the work, he said.
‘‘I think it’s a real page-turner, there’s some fascinating stories from the difficult moments at SPC Ardmona — the board split in the late ’80s, the union challenges in the early ’90s, all sorts of different things.
‘‘This really delves into some challenging issues that the companies have faced over the years.’’
