The Wine Australia figures reveal more than $2.82billion of wine was exported last year, with the volume increasing five per cent to 850million litres.
Wine Australia chief executive officer Andreas Clark said the figures demonstrated strong international demand and showed how international markets had grown.
‘‘This demand translated into growth in almost all price segments,’’ Mr Clark said.
Bottled wine shipments increased by seven per cent in value to $2.24billion and decreased in volume by three per cent to 361million litres, with the average value of bottled wine growing by 10 per cent to a record $6.20/litre.
China continues to be the biggest market for Australian wine following an increase of 18 per cent to $1.14billion, while exports to North America have begun to level out after being in decline for more than 12 months.
The value of unpackaged wine jumped by more than a quarter to $560million, with volume also increasing by 12 per cent to 480million litres.
The average value of unpackaged wine per litre also grew, increasing by 14 per cent to $1.17/litre.
Last year saw a significant boost in the value of exports by about $10/litre, jumping by 22 per cent to $895million and surpassing the $2.50 to $4.99/litre segment, historically the largest segment of exports.
Red wine continues to be the most popular wine style exported from Australia, and value increased by 12 per cent to $2.14billion in the year ending December 31, 2018.
The value of white wine exports also grew by 10 per cent to $607million.
