Aussie Hay Runners, a program of the Heyfield Lions Club, is looking for hay donations for farmers who have lost pastures and fencing in the fires near Ballarat and Clunes.
Hay Runners founder Linda Widdup said the Goulburn Valley had historically been a great supporter of the fodder runs and she believes there would be people able to help.
“We can’t do it without the donors,” Linda said to the Country News.
Hay Runners has already secured offers of transport from the Shepparton region.
“Although we can’t get into the affected areas yet, we expect within a week there will be an opportunity to move the support, so we are seeking donations in preparation.”
Hay Runners draws on information from the CFA and the Lions Club networks to identify affected farmers.
“Some will have lost their hay, and others will need more because they’ve lost their fences and they have to remove their stock from the burnt out paddocks.”
Hay Runners is a volunteer organisation.
If you can help, contact Linda Widdup on 0421 972 332.
