It might have a little more razzle dazzle than the good old days, but it just keeps reinventing itself and keeps on going.
While the town around it has also changed, the show is one fixed point of the local universe with its familiar animals, rides, exhibits, friendly faces and memories passed down through generations.
“I think over those 99 years, we’ve been able to bring a place where, with everything that is changing in Kyabram, this is the one thing that is the same,” Kyabram AH&P Society president Harry Lloyd said.
On Saturday, October 17, this year’s show will continue the legacy, with the event offering something for just about every age and interest.
There will be plenty to keep families busy, with an animal nursery, camel rides, reptiles and face painting, while horses and pony club events, goats, dairy cattle and a dog show will bring plenty of action to the grounds.
“You can go into the animal nursery and pick up a chicken, or you can go look at the cows or the goats,” Mr Lloyd said.
The pavilions will also be filled with flowers, cooking and artwork, giving visitors the chance to admire the work entered by locals and, for younger competitors, proudly spot their own creations on display.
“You can put in your artwork every year, and it’s something that is for everyone; all the different age groups and interests can all come together on that day.”
The show will also welcome back a piece of its past, with vintage engines returning this year, including a small-engine display and larger steam engines.
Few people know the history of the show better than grounds manager John Smith, who has been involved since 1969.
Mr Smith became a life member in 1976 and has spent decades helping look after the showgrounds, giving him a front-row seat to the changes the event has gone through over the years.
Now, with the 100th show just around the corner, this year’s event offers a chance to celebrate what the Kyabram Show does best: bringing the community together.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the gate on show day.
Head down to the grounds on show day to catch up with family and friends and enjoy a classic agricultural show experience.
